Being a newcomer to a country can be a fun and exciting experience; however, adapting to a new lifestyle and adopting a new set of values can often be daunting. Understanding the process of settlement will prepare you for what to expect.
Morocco House (Non-profit organization) is proud to offer guidance and assistance to new Moroccans in BC in helping them throughout the settlement process.
Things to do right away
- Find a settlement agency close to your home. You can get information about your community, jobs, and language training
- Apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Register for the Medical Services Plan (MSP). You will not have MSP for up to three months. Make sure you buy private medical insurance for that time
- Open a bank account
- Find a place to live. Buy insurance for your home and belongings
- Apply for the Canada Child Tax Benefit for children under 18 years old
- Register children for school
- Apply for a B.C. driver’s licence
- Register for English classes
